Mu Dills: Beast From The East

The east coast needs a music makeover and a whole revitalization to be brought back to life if it hopes to stay in tact with America's urban youth. They say Papoose is capable of doing that, but there are a lot of people that would bet on the likes and sounds of New Jersey's MU Dills, the hottest on the New Jersey streets as of recently. Dills is a very rare case of east coast swag and talent with a west coast upbringing. Having the best of both worlds has made him into the well-rounded rapper he is today. Find out what else curved his enthusiasm taking off into the career that he never planned for.

Rizzle: What up MU Dills? What it do in Jersey my dude? I know you've been very busy.

MU: I've just been grindin'... I'm grindin' hard right now, just finished up that Brick Therapy with Dj King Nade. It's got that "Rain Check" joint on there with Lil' Kim and we're getting good responses off of that. I'm also doing a series of videos. Its going be 11 weeks of 11 videos posted on youtube.com. Check it out.

Rizzle23: They say you are the future up north, at age 20. How's it feel to be a well known street king out of Jersey?

MU: It's like the response I've been getting has been crazy and I'm a little surprised. I wasn't into the whole music thing til' recently. I was running the streets, but I always felt like I could do it. I had some fam that was down with DeathRow back in bout 95' and I was like damn, Snoop, Tu-Pac and them in the back ground so I always knew it could happen. I had some ill mentors.

Rizzle: New York has been sputtering lately, trying to push new talent out up north and they say you are the next to blow from that direction. What makes your music keep an ear to the streets? Why are people feeling your sound so much?

MU: You know, I was online and someone had commented something that said "He was the next to bring NY back" in reference to me and I was really shocked at that and at the support I'm getting over all. That right there in a whole made me go all in.

Rizzle: A lot of people don't stress enough the importance of being able to write, especially their own rhymes. Tell us how long you've been working with your pen and pad?

MU: Not that long, but I catch on real quick. If I play golf for the first time, I'll learn how to get a hole in one that day. That's just how I am and how I've always been nah mean!

Rizzle: Tell us your relationship with Monee Green Entertainment's Super Producer Keeb and how important he was to your success?

MU: Keeb's real tight and he is very important to my success. He believed in me and he put the weight on my back. You gotta know that you got it and I always had him talkin' greatness in my ear. You've got to believe and let that negativity go. Only you can make yourself; all a person can do is make you believe. I really believe that I'm number one, and it reflects in my music.

Rizzle: How's your learning curve being so young and new to the game of hip-hop as a business. How's your business savvy coming along?

MU: As far as business is concerned, I'm still learning. I'm not learning at a 100% rate right now. I got about 70 % of it down I'd have to say. I'll always have a lot more to learn. Even someone at 90 has a lot to learn still.

Rizzle: Grind City put you on in the streets. How did you first feel when you saw that the streets took kind to your sound?

MU: I had a big smile. You have a million dudes trying 2 do music that make cd's everyday and I thought the people was gone say, "Aw he spittin' a little bit, but he ain't shit."

Rizzle: You get the spins in on Music Choice actually requested by viewers. How do you feel about being thrown in the rotation and standing out with the many artists on there?

MU: Music choice came to my music listening party for Grind City I, II, and III. Everybody came up, all the Dj's came out. I had it in the studio Platinum Sounds (Wyclef Jean's Studio in New York.) It was definitely a good look I even ran into Kay Slay so I knew it was serious.

Rizzle: Ok, so I see you online there with Azzure. Are you sponsored by them? How's that working out for your exposure as a new artist?

MU: Naw, I'm not sponsored by them. I just did a clothing ad with them. They had me play Slick Rick and I'm like damn, I look like slick Rick? That's messed up! (Laughs) I was honored though, he's a legend. Big shouts out to Azzure!!

Rizzle: You've been seen and heard all over major music media outlets. (MTV.com, Billboard.com, XM Radio, Music Choice). Do you feel as though you are now a role model for Jersey's youth as people see you everywhere now?

MU: I'ma keep doing my thing. I don't wake up everyday trying to be a role model. I'm not all the way correct to even be a role model for real. I never knew people would cling on to me like that. I can't say don't do this or don't do that, but I know how it is to come up from nothing. I can tell youth from the urban community what's up because I've been there.

Rizzle: Tell me about the success of Grind City 2.

MU: Man, after dropping that album, I had a lot of demands so we ended up giving up the mixtape to monster.com. Yall can purchase the current single "Fresh n Fly" on there right now.

Rizzle: Have you come up with a title for your newest project, your first solo album under Monee Green Ent.?

MU: Yea, it's called G-Related. I'm still working on it right now, but it's gone be hot!

Rizzle: What big shows do you got coming up as you continue to gain exposure? Have you been on tour?

MU: I'm about to do the Vote or Die on July 29th in D.C., T.I. is going be the headliner.

Rizzle: Is there anything else you may have left out that maybe you want everybody to know about you out there before we wrap this up?

MU: I want everybody to know you got to put your spirit over your ego, let go of all your fears and doubts and know that you can do what you want to do in life!
